The National Council is an important organ of the UNA Morocco. It constitutes the framework for dialogue and regular concertation between the main national institutions and stakeholders organizations on guidelines for development policy, advocacy and implementation of national and international programs.

The National Council provides a forum for multi-stakeholders where open high-level dialogue can be conducted on the challenges related to the UNA focus groups.

The 53 prominent figures that make up the National Council are divided into groups to represent the various components of civil society: NGOs, unions, employers, businesses, parliament members, local governments, universities and research centres. A five group of foreign prominent figures rounds out the Council (and is what makes it such a unique forum).

The concerned Ministries responsible for each of the focus areas are invited as Honorary Chairs. A representative from the UN agencies in Morocco is also invited to attend relevant meetings.

An Advisory Board composed of one representative from every group meets regularly to jointly choose and work on the main items on the Council’s agenda.

A broader format is organized annually to invite all of the members of civil society who were interested to participate in NC discussions. More than 400 people attend this one-day meeting of work and discussions focused on young people, preparation of national/international initiatives and the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.
